To hell with Fast Food

Fast food... McDonalds, Wendys, Rallys... all of those burger-slinging places... Aren't they so wonderful?
I won't sit here and claim to not eat fast food... but I do try to limit my intake of the fatnasty stuff. I guess I just figure that I don't need a hamburger so bad every day that I couldn't just cook one up on the skillet occasionally. I guess I also figure that the people who work there have a bad enough day just dealing with everyone else, why should I constantly barrage them with my attitude too?
Really... I've never worked at a fast food joint, but how many people have? Come' on... chances are that you have... most people under the age of 25 anyway have probably at some point in their life. How did you feel? I'd say that it is likely you felt like crap when you were there. You probably got into work in a oh-kay kinda mood, but then, within moments, probably got food thrown in your face, or got burned by grease, or yelled at by a "boss" for not finishing up a burger in 15 seconds or less. You probably left work with grease all over ya; in your hair, soaking your clothes, and even under your fingernails. You feel like bull-dukie then only to remember that they're probably paying you next-to-nothing and there is no health insurance or anything. What the hell??
What makes a customer think that they can treat the guy on the other side of the counter like shit? I figure it must be that most people think that they are "better" than that person... bull... they probably worked at a burger place once too. Seems like too many people have an attiude of "must get food now--can not wait--ughhhh." They expect too much of the poor 16-year-old burger-slinger who would like nothing more than to be able to do something better. It isn't our right to have quick food, it is more of a privelege... or maybe even a curse in some ways.
People want their food now now now... then they wonder why they're overweight. I'll tell ya right now, I don't blame the fast food places for my weight problem, but I think that they are a catalyst for most peoples' problem. Human stupidity is an easily manipulated thing... and many people don't realize that having McDonalds for breakfast or Wendys for lunch every day can be bad for you... I know in high school, if I had money, I was at wendys or burger king every single day. I never thought about the calories... but my belly was sure collecting them! I gained the most weight my senior year right after I got my drivers lisence. I stopped riding my bike and got lazy lazy lazy.
I love the fact that my wife likes to cook, rather than simply going out to eat every single night... I think my weight is a problem now, I don't even wanna think about what it could be like. Her cooking, and my willingness to wait for food rather than just harvesting it from the nearest Burger King, is probably going to help keep my weight from ballooning uncontrollably. Yeah, we still go out occasionally, but what we try to do is save up the money from all the fast-food visits we could have had and spend them on one nice dinner at Red Lobster or Olive Garden. Yeah, that can be fattening too, but at least it isn't an every day thing...
Woah... think of that. Red Lobster... every... day... I can't imagine how much money I'd have to make to pay for that...
Yet this is how we treat fast food places. They're always on stand-by to help us increase our belt size and at the same time they sacrifice their sanity to deal with our bad attitudes. Any comments to share with me? Godbless!
Reference: While most of this was pulled right out of my rear, my wife's experiences while working at McDonalds were very helpful.
