Yasser Arafat

Almost everyone has heard of Yasser Arafat, the infamous leader of the Palestinians... If you haven't, I'm honestly quite surprised, especially since the media has gone pretty much hogwild covering various aspects of his life (I presume because of his death) in the past week or so. Heck, a CBS producer got himself canned because of his overzealous response to Arafat's passing (CNN article referenced below). This particular producer managed to interrupt the new episode of "CSI:NY", a show that is quickly growing to become one of my favorites. That by itself was enough to piss me off honestly, but even worse, as I watched the stupid programming that interrupted my show I got the impression that CBS was essentially glorifying Arafat as some sort of saint!
Seriously people, Arafat is no saint. He is a terrorist leader, plain and simple, no better than the leaders of al Qaeda or Hamas. He and his associates are responsible for numerous terrorist atrocities including the deaths of the Israeli wrestling team in the 1972 Olympics. The fact that somehow this vile individual managed to win the Nobel price for peace make me want to vomit. He not once showed any true interest in denouncing his terrorist activities, nor did he ever make an honest attempt at a 'peace' settlement with Israeli authorities.
Some want to claim that the Palestinians have acted as a nation defending it's territory, to them I argue that Israel should have declared war and destroyed them... but instead they act as terrorists blowing themselves up in various cities (Gaza comes to mind) in a sick, twisted attempt to murder civilians. These are not the actions of armies but of cowards and murderers. Terrorists are the most true cowards of the world, you see: hiding behind their cause gives them all the reason they need to kill innocent people, people who had committed no wrong against them. Stand up and be proud, you are such a big man, you just killed a bussload of six-year olds! Yay!
In the end, what goes through my mind: They celebrated when the twin towers went down, we should celebrate now that their leader has fallen. We should have a wild 24 hour crazy-go-nuts party; a day on which no one has to go to work, free beer and liquor for all who wish it! But no, we're better than that, we won't publicly celebrate his death, but I promise you this: The world, and even the Palestinians themselves, are truly better without him around.
