Medicine Alert

As repeat-readers may know, I'm on a medicine called Advair that is supposed to prevent my asthma-like symptoms from occurring. I take this medication via an inhaler that I use once every 12 hours. This particular medication contains 50mcg (micrograms) of a substance dubbed salmeterol (as does Serevent), as well as between 100mcg and 500mcg of fluticasone propionate. Mine has the 50/100 mix, and it is working relatively well for me; however, I won't dare say I've had no issues with my breathing at all since I started on it.
Not that I expected it to solve all of my problems (no treatment is that good). Still, some of the discomfort I started feeling prompted me to do a little further reading about it, and a few websites I found some alarming information.
This Advair can be pretty mean stuff if ya overdose. Although I figured overdose on any medication is unhealthy, I would have liked to know to what severity a response from overdose could be, and my doctor did not inform me. The salmeterol can cause seizures, heart rate in excess of 200 beats per minute, fatigue, and insomnia (to name a few). There are others like muscle cramps and dizziness which I have experienced to some degree (the main reason for me doing further research into the drug in the first place).
I guess I'm just disappointed that the big nastiness (the possibility of seizure for instance) wasn't explained to me beforehand. It may have lead me to request a different medication... and now that I think of it, I probably will be talking with him soon to see what other options exist, but unfortunately my research so far suggests that there aren't any meds without the salmeterol that will do the job for me. I'll keep looking tho of course.
Anyway, just thought I'd write this as a caution/warning message to anyone who reads: do your own research about your medications, don't assume your doc. will do it for you, or even tell you if he does.
Any feedback on this subject? Godbless!
